SEASONAL FULL-TIME FIELD TECHNICIAN
Pay: Starting at $17.39 hourly
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to see more of rural Churchill County, enjoys working outdoors, and likes to work independently. This position is diverse and never boring. Military veterans are encouraged to apply.
Position Summary:
This is a seasonal, entry-level position that is expected to start in April and end in November, dependent on when the mosquito and weed treatment season begins and ends. There is the potential to be asked to continue as a full-time employee of the District for qualified candidates, but it is not guaranteed.
This job involves driving District vehicles throughout Churchill County, Nevada, treating weeds and mosquito larval sources. Candidate will also gather mosquito fish, maintain their holding area at the District facility, and redistribute them throughout the County, to both larval sources and the public as requested. Candidate may also help gather and/or deliver live chickens and their supplies in support of our testing efforts. To be most effective, the candidate will sometimes need to enter irrigation ditches and other water sources.
The position does not require experience or specific education, but it does require attention to detail and a willingness to learn. This is a physically active, fast-paced position and requires the ability to be on your feet the entire shift as well as move quickly and with purpose from task to task.
Candidates should be self-motivated and trustworthy.
All candidates must be able to lift 75 lbs. throughout a shift. Must be available for all designated shifts. There may be a need to work an occasional 2-hour evening or weekend shift, sometimes on short notice.
The work environment may include extreme temperatures, dirt/mud, dust, fumes, and high winds.
Ability to operate a forklift a plus, but not required.
Ability to drive a manual transmission a plus, but not required. Some District vehicles have manual transmissions.
Some mechanical aptitude a plus, but not required.
Responsibilities:
- Candidate will receive training, correction and suggestions from supervisors with a good attitude.
- Candidate will load and unload herbicide, larvicide and adulticide materials on and off of carts and trucks, using appropriate safety methods and PPE.
- Candidate will lift and carry up to 75 lbs.correctly and safely throughout the workday.
- Candidate will perform duties in various weather conditions. Temperature highs will range from between 45 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit, and candidate will encounter high winds, dust, rain and possibly even snow.
- Candidate will maintain a safe and clean work environment, working to ensure that work areas are free of hazards, dangers, and obstacles.
- Candidate will report any maintenance issues with equipment or vehicles to a supervisor or administrative staff.
- Candidate will operate District vehicles in a safe and respectful manner and observe and adhere to all state and local laws as they pertain to the operation of a vehicle.
- Candidate must be available for all shifts as described in the Position Summary.
Job Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must possess, or be willing and able to obtain within 2 weeks of hire, a valid Nevada driver’s license, and must have a clean driving record.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Must be able to perform basic math equations to determine correct herbicide and pesticide ratios.
- Must be able to read and navigate using maps and GPS.
- Must be able to lift and carry 75 lbs.
- Must be physically fit and capable of working in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to interact respectfully with other staff members, management, and members of the public.
- Must place high importance on safety and responsibility.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must have access to and ability to text and email.
- Must be able to follow directions without supervision and work independently with integrity.

- Must be able to commute to District facility located at 7400 Reno Hwy., Fallon, Nevada per scheduling requirements.
Job Type: Temporary with possibility of full-time employment offer.
Schedule: Primarily Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM and/or 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM with occasional approximately 2 hour shifts on an evening or weekend.
Work Location: In person at the District facility at 7400 Reno Hwy., Fallon, NV and throughout Churchill County. Remote work is not an option for this position.
Position is dependent on the candidate\'s ability to meet all physical requirements of the position.
Position is at-will employment; there is no guaranteed contract for continued employment.
Offers of full time employment, raises and bonuses, may be given based on merit, attitude, and efficiency, but are not guaranteed.
The District will perform a drug test, background check, and driving record check.
